Bears, Snow, and the Revival of My LSK8 Project
Lately, bear sightings have been making the news almost daily, and as a result, I've been staying away from the mountains.
While I’ve been keeping my distance from the trails, snow has finally arrived—marking the beginning of the snowboarding season.
熊と雪と、LSK8の再始動
最近は連日のように熊出没のニュースが報じられ、登山はすっかり足が遠のいてしまいました。
そんなふうに山から離れているうちに、ついに雪が降り始め、いよいよスノーボードの季節が到来です。
Repairing the Damaged Nose
Meanwhile, my LSK8 project, which had been on pause, has seen a bit of progress.
Before diving into the design work, I noticed something troubling: although I had previously sanded the deck clean, the nose section of the plywood was damaged—on the verge of falling apart.
The outermost layer on the underside was completely ruined, so I made a cut to remove the compromised section.
It looked like the previous owner had hit something hard, causing the nose to flare slightly. I used a cutter to separate the layers of plywood and created a gap where the damage had spread.
傷んだノーズの修復作業
止まっていたLSK8の制作も、少しずつ再開。
…と、その前に、以前サンダーをかけてきれいにしたはずのノーズ部分をよく見ると、合板がバラバラになりそうなほど傷んでいました。
一番裏面側の薄い一枚が壊滅的に破損していたので、途中で切れ込みを入れてカット。
おそらく前オーナーが何か硬い物にヒットさせたのか、ノーズは少し開き気味になっていたため、合板の層ごとにカッターを入れて破損箇所に隙間を作りました。
Epoxy Resin Reinforcement
I then bonded a piece of shina veneer into the removed area using epoxy resin.
At the same time, I filled the newly created gaps with resin and clamped everything tightly with a vise.
Once cured, I trimmed the veneer to match the original shape, shaved it down with a cutter to eliminate any height differences, and finished it off with a sander for a smooth, even surface.
エポキシレジンでの補修と整形
取り除いた部分には、シナベニヤのシナ面をエポキシレジンで貼り合わせ。
同時に隙間にもレジンを浸透させて、バイスでしっかり固定しました。
硬化後はオリジナルの形状にカットし、段差が出ないようにカッターで削って調整。
最後はサンダーで凹凸のない滑らかな仕上がりに。
Base Color Application
With the deck restored, I applied a base coat of water-based maple varnish.
The color came out slightly darker than expected, but before adding the final graphic, I plan to wipe it down with a damp cloth to adjust the tone to my liking.
ベースカラーの着彩
デッキがきれいに整ったところで、水性ニスのメイプルをベースカラーとして着彩。
少し濃い目に色が入っていますが、グラフィックを入れる前に濡れ布で好みの色味まで拭き取る予定です。
Rethinking the Design
Originally, I had planned to use a Pt3 hula girl motif. I traced the design in Adobe Illustrator and even created a full-size template.
I painted a rainbow base to go with it, but something didn’t sit right. I couldn’t get into it.
So I sanded off the painted section and reapplied the base varnish—starting fresh
デザインの方向転換
当初はPt3のフラガールをモチーフにしたデザインを考えていて、Illustratorでトレースし、原寸型紙まで作成。
ベースにはレインボーカラーを塗ってみたものの、どうにも気持ちが乗らず…。
結局サンダーで着色部分を削ぎ落とし、水性ニスで塗り直して仕切り直すことにしました。
A Nordic-Inspired Graphic Direction
Normally, I sketch with pencil or pen and add transparent watercolor, but this time I tried drawing on my iPad.
As I played around with loose sketches, I started to like the idea of a flat design. That led me to shift toward a slightly Nordic-inspired graphic style.
Once the direction was clear, I traced and refined the elements in Illustrator.
The final design features vivid yet slightly muted colors—aiming for a balance of calm and beauty in the shapes.
普段なら鉛筆やボールペンで描いて、透明水彩で着色するスタイルですが、今回はiPadでドローイング。
ゆるく描いているうちに「フラットデザインも悪くないなぁ」と思い始め、北欧的な雰囲気のグラフィックに方向転換しました。
Illustratorでトレース＆作図して要素を整理。
最終的には、ビビッドでありながら少しくすみのある色合いを選び、落ち着きと美しさを兼ね備えた形状に仕上げました。
Today’s Progress and What’s Next
Today, I printed out the full-size line art template and cut it out.
Next up: transferring the template and finally painting the graphic.

今日の作業は、線画にした原寸型紙をプリントアウトして切り抜くところまで。
次はいよいよ型紙をトレースダウンして色塗りです。
