LSK8 Design Pt5

 It’s been a while since I last worked on this, as progress has been slow
but I finally managed to move things forward, even if just a little.

To start, I created a full-scale graphic in Adobe Illustrator to get a feel for the overall size. The density looks about right at this stage.

Before drawing on the actual LSK8 deck, I ran a test using a piece of plywood. I used a burning pen to sketch the graphic and added color with acrylic paint.

The results were generally promising. For the coloring, I’m still deciding between using liquid acrylic paint or mixing dye with a pouring medium. I’ll run a few experiments to see which approach works best.

If all goes well, I should be able to start the burning process next week. I’ll share another update once things progress a bit more.
LSK8のデザイン。その5です。

なかなか制作を進められなかったので、しばらく開いてしまいましたが、ほんのちょっぴり進めることができました。

まずはAdobeIllustratorで原寸大のグラフィックを作り、全体の大きさ感覚をチェック。
密度的にもこの位で良さそうです。

本物のLSK8に描く前に、テストでベニヤ板にバーニングペンでグラフィックを描いて、アクリル絵の具で色を入れてみました。

結果はおおむね良好です。色付けはリキッドタイプのアクリル塗料にするか、染料をポーリングメディウムに混ぜて使うかを実験して決めたいなぁと思っています。

たぶん、来週には墨入れ(焼描)できると思います。

作業が進んだらまたレポートしますね。

A circuit hike from Mt.Tokushunbetsu to Mt.Horohoro 徳舜瞥山～ホロホロ山（日鉄鉱山跡コースで）

 Since 2022, this was my fourth hike to Mount Tokushunbetsu and Mount Horohoro.
Last time, I climbed only Mount Horohoro from the Shiraoi trailhead, but this time I returned to the classic route via the old Nippon Steel mine trail—it's been a while!

Being a Sunday, the parking lot was packed. I managed to squeeze into a small space and set off on the trail.
Both Tokushunbetsu and Horohoro are rocky mountains, so the path is scattered with stones and boulders. Many of them are covered in moss, creating a lush, deep forest atmosphere. The gentle sound of a stream nearby added to the peaceful vibe.

It took about an hour and a half to reach the summit of Tokushunbetsu. But as is often the case in summer, the peak was swarming with bugs!
Apparently, I stumbled upon the exact moment when winged ants were preparing to take flight. I snapped a quick photo and moved on toward Horohoro.

Though it looked far at first glance, the hike to Horohoro took only about 20 minutes.
Unfortunately, it was also full of bugs, so I took another quick photo and began the descent. On the way down, I found a spot with a beautiful view of Tokushunbetsu and stopped for lunch. After a short break, I passed by Tokushunbetsu again and made it back to the parking lot in about an hour.

I love the dappled sunlight filtering through the trees along forest paths.

The weather was absolutely perfect, and the breeze through the forest made for a refreshing and rejuvenating hike.

It was one of those days where nature gives you exactly what you need.

2022年から数えて、今回で4度目の徳舜瞥山〜ホロホロ山トレッキングへ行ってきました。

前回は白老登山口からホロホロ山だけを登ったのですが、今回は久しぶりに日鉄鉱山跡コースからのチャレンジです。

日曜日ということもあり、駐車場は大混雑。なんとか隙間を見つけて車を停め、いざスタート。
徳舜瞥山とホロホロ山はどちらも岩山なので、登山道にはゴロゴロとした石や岩がたくさん。苔がびっしりとついていて、深い森の雰囲気がたっぷり味わえます。小川のせせらぎも心地よく、癒されながらの登山です。

およそ1時間半で徳舜瞥山の山頂に到着。ところが、夏の登山あるあるで虫が大発生！
どうやら羽アリが旅立つタイミングに遭遇してしまったようで、写真だけ撮ってすぐにホロホロ山へ向かいました。

見た目には距離がありそうに見えるホロホロ山ですが、実際には20分ほどで到着。
しかし、こちらも虫が多く、長居はせずに写真だけ撮って下山開始。途中、徳舜瞥山が美しく見えるスポットがあったので、そこでランチタイム。再び徳舜瞥山を経由して、約1時間ほどで駐車場に戻ってきました。

この日は本当に天気が良く、心地よい風が吹く中で森林浴をたっぷり満喫。
岩と苔、せせらぎ、そして山の空気に包まれた、贅沢なひとときでした。

BAMBOLA Red Pencil (消せる赤鉛筆)

For years, the go-to sketching pencil among American doodlers has been the SANFORD Col-Erase—especially the red one. I’ve used it myself for ages. But lately, trying to import it privately has become ridiculously expensive due to shipping costs.

Why is the red Col-Erase so popular? It goes back to the animation industry, where artists used red and blue pencils on training paper to indicate movable parts. The fact that these colors were erasable made them incredibly useful.

Now, you’d think the eraser attached to the Col-Erase would be convenient—but it’s practically useless. It doesn’t erase cleanly at all. In fact, it smudges the paper and makes things worse.

When my stock ran out, I switched to Mitsubishi Uni’s “Art Erase Color” pencils. These are also erasable and, as expected from Mitsubishi, they’re smooth and easy to draw with. But I just couldn’t get used to the thick, round barrel. Mitsubishi used to sell a pencil literally called “Erasable Red Pencil,” but sadly, it’s been discontinued.

So I went on a hunt for something closer to the Col-Erase and finally discovered BAMBOLA’s erasable red pencil. First off, the price is amazing—just ¥599 for a dozen on Amazon (as of August 23, 2025), which comes out to about ¥50 per pencil. Even if you bulk order Col-Erase by the thousand, it’s still not this cheap.

And here’s the kicker: the eraser actually works. It erases cleanly. That might sound like a basic expectation, but for those of us who’ve lived with the Col-Erase’s useless eraser for years, it’s honestly a revelation.

The only minor drawback is that the barrel seems to be made of plastic. But it sharpens smoothly, so it’s not really a problem in practice.

All in all, I’m thrilled to have found an affordable, erasable red pencil that actually works.

アメリカのドゥードゥラー達のド定番下描き用の鉛筆は「SANFORD Col-Erace」で、私も長年使っているのですが、昨今、個人輸入しようとするとシッピング(送料)がとんでも無く高い!! 

なぜにこの「SANFORD Col-Erace」、しかも赤が人気かと言うと、まずは元々アニメーション制作界隈でトレーニングペーパーに赤や青で可動部の指示や描画をしていたことからよく使われるようになったようで、その際に消せると言うことは非常に便利でした。

この「SANFORD Col-Erace」には消しゴムが付いているので、直ぐに消せる…と思いそうですが、この消しゴムはただ付いているだけで、全く綺麗に消えません!!それどころか、紙が汚れます!!

そんなこんなで、ストックが無くなってからは「三菱Uniのアーテレーズカラー」を使っていました。この「三菱Uniのアーテレーズカラー」も消せる色鉛筆です。確かに流石の三菱Uniで滑らかで描きやすいのですが、丸太軸がどうも馴染めません。

※以前は三菱からその名も「消せる赤鉛筆」と言うのが発売されていたのですが、ついに廃盤となってしまったのです。

そこでできるだけ「SANFORD Col-Erace」に近いものを探したところ、「BAMBOLAの消せる赤鉛筆」たどり着きました。

まず、この「BAMBOLAの消せる赤鉛筆」の価格ですが、Amazonで599円/1ダース(2025/8/23現在)、1本あたり約50円で安い!!

「SANFORD Col-Erace」も個人輸入で1000本単位で買うと安くなるのですが、ここまで安くはありません。

そして、付属の消しゴムでちゃんと綺麗に消せる!!

当たり前の事なのですが、長年「SANFORD Col-Erace」の消しゴムは使えない!!が常識だったので感動的でした。唯一気になったのは軸の材質がおそらく樹脂製。ですが、鉛筆削りで滑らかに削れるので、使用するには何も問題はありません。

とにかく低価格で「消せる赤鉛筆」を使えるようになり、とても嬉しいです。

LSK8 in Toyohira Riverside Pt3

We didn't get to go LSK8 last weekend due to the bad weather, but the forecast for today was good from the afternoon on. When we got there, it was a beautiful day for LSK8, with clear skies and a pleasant breeze.

My partner today was Muratu. He's only been out a few times, but he's already gotten the hang of it, and today he even said, "I want to go faster!"

We can't fight our age, so let's just take it slow and easy.

先週末は天気がすぐれずLSK8行けませんでしたが、今日は午後から良くなる予報。

行ってみると青空で爽やかな風もあり最高のLSK8日和でした。 

今日の相棒はMURATUさん。まだ数回しか乗っていませんが、あっという間に乗れるようになり、今日は「もっとスピードを上げたい！」とまで言っていました。 

まぁ、齢には勝てませんので、気長にのんびり乗りましょうね～

LSK8 Design Pt4

I've been working on a full-scale template for the Pt4 design, thinking I might go with it. But now I'm back to sketching again because:

1) I want to add more detail to the artwork,

2) I feel like it needs some bold English lettering, and

3) I figured—why not include the blog title too?

It’s not work, so I’m taking my time and enjoying the process.

実は、Pt4のデザインを採用しようかと思って、原寸大の型紙を作っていたのですが、

①絵柄をもう少し細かくしたい。

②英文字のワイドが欲しい。

③どうせならこのブログのタイトルを載せたい。

と言うことで、再びデザインのラフ作業に戻りました。

まぁ仕事ではないし、ゆっくり決めていこうと思います。

LSK8 Design pt3

Still in progress, but the idea’s coming together.I sketched a scene of gliding through winter fields on a longboard with a spirit board setup.

Copy:
Split with spirit. Fields, not limits. Ride infinite.

The deck is natural maple wood. I’m planning to burn the lines in with a pyrography pen, layer in color with acrylics, and seal it all with a clear coat.

まだ決定ではないけど、少し具体的にアイデアを詰めてみました。

ロングスケートボードにスピリットボードで冬のフィールドを滑り抜ける様子を描いてみました。

コピーは "Split with spirit. Fields, not limits. Ride infinite."
「スプリットにゾッコン! フィールドに限界はない。思うがままに駆け抜けろ!」です。

板はメイプルのナチュラルウッドなので、バーニングペンで線を描き、アクリル絵の具で色を入れ、最後にクリアのコーティング仕上げをしようかと考えています。

Yakisoba RunRun

Finally made it to "Yakisoba Runrun" a spot I can only visit on weekdays.It’s been a while, so I couldn’t hide my excitement!
My go-to order: yakisoba rice topped with a fried egg.
This place never disappoints. The yakisoba here is just unbeatable!!!!

平日休みじゃないとなかなか行けない「焼きそば ランラン」へ。
しばらく行けてなかったのでワクワクが止まりません。
焼きそばライスに目玉焼き乗せは私の定番。
やっぱりここの焼きそばは美味いなぁ～。
